Steel production is an energy-intensive industry with multiple types of energy involved. The by-product coal gases during manufacturing can also be reused for onsite power supply. Thus, the management of steel production process and the energy management of highly-DER-penetrated MEMG operation are mutually impacted.
The steel plant can be regarded as a large-scale flexible load where the flexibility can be achieved through the optimization of the steel manufacturing process. The steel production is divided into 7 single processes, and each process is comprised of raw material input, production output and intermediate storage.
Thus, this paper proposes a three-stage coordinated operation method for steel plant-based MEMGs, aiming to minimize the total operating cost. In this method, the steel production is scheduled weekly-ahead to meet the production demand considering carbon emission reduction.
In order to explore the impact of carbon price on steel-plant-based MEMG operation, another two carbon prices $55/ton CO 2 and $75 are applied for comparison. Similar to Section E, 1000 randomly generated scenarios of renewable energy output are used for testing. The carbon trading cost and total operating cost are shown in Table 6.
