Historical Data and Forecast of Kuwait Flexible Power Plants Powered by Medium Speed Generators Market Revenues & Volume By Fuel Type for the Period 2020- 2030 Historical
Power generation in Kuwait depends primarily on the cogeneration-desalination power plants. There are 6 power plants in Kuwait, namely: Doha East, Doha West, Shuaiba, Al-Zour South, Sabiya, and Shuwaikh as shown on the Kuwait map in figure 1. These power plants employ both thermal steam turbines and gas turbines for power generation.
Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy (MEW) has announced plans to expand the Sabiya Combined Cycle Power Plant by adding 900 megawatts (MW) of gas turbine capacity.
The project is currently owned by Ministry of Electricity & Water & Renewable Energy, Kuwait with a stake of 100%. It is a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power plant that is used for Peakload. The power plant run on dual-fuel. The primary fuel being used to power the plant is natural gas.
Sabiya Combined Cycle Power Plant (Sabiya Combined Cycle Power Plant Phase II) is equipped with GE Power D11 steam turbines. The phase consists of 3 steam turbines with 249MW nameplate capacity. GE Power supplied Hydrogen-cooled electric generator for the project. GE Power supplied Hydrogen-cooled electric generator for the project.
“GE is committed to driving power sector efficiency across Kuwait and helping the Ministry of Electricity meet the increasing demand for power for domestic, industrial and municipal use,” said Ghassan Barghout, President & CEO of GE's Gas Power Systems - Sales, for the Middle East & North Africa.
As an instrumental power supplier for the country's energy sector, Mitsubishi Power provides almost half (43%) of Kuwait's power supply. Our technologies are installed in many major power plants, including the 2.4GW Doha West, 2.4GW Sabiya, and the 2.5GW Az-Zour South 0.5GW Shuaiba South B.
