From Wind to Hydrogen: Mapping Ireland''s Green Energy

Ireland's National Hydrogen Strategy, published in July 2023, outlines a vision for developing a hydrogen sector to support decarbonisation, energy security, and industrial growth, with 21 actions aimed at removing barriers, advancing research, and preparing for hydrogen exports.
Hydrogen Mobility Ireland, a member association, was formed in 2019 by a group of companies that want to develop hydrogen fuel cell transport in Ireland working with stakeholders from North and South of the Island of Ireland.
Recognizing the transformative potential of renewable hydrogen, Ireland aims to harness its abundant wind energy resources to produce clean, zero-emission hydrogen that can decarbonize key sectors such as heavy transport, industry, and energy storage.
The call for evidence aimed at clarifying the current and potential hydrogen utilisation in Ireland for the transportation, industry, and domestic heating sectors was held in January 2022. It also provided some insights on how the stakeholders perceive the benefits of hydrogen consumption with respect to other alternative fuels and energy carriers.
Blended hydrogen can also arrive in Ireland from the UK via the same connections. Collaboration will continue under the North Seas Energy Cooperation (NSEC) framework to engage with potential partners. Hydrogen is expected to have a role in freight, HDV and regional and intercity transport.
The project will achieve this by developing Ireland's first hydrogen valley and a multi-modal hydrogen transport hub in Galway, speeding up the country's energy transition and decarbonization across various applications. See Project Site at this link
